GMA NewSteel™

High Performance New Steel Garnet Abrasive

GMA NewSteel™ garnet abrasive is a high performance blasting abrasive that delivers the most efficient and cost-effective surface preparation on new steel surfaces, light rust or thin coatings.

GMA NewSteel™ garnet abrasive is ideally suited for surface preparation in the fabrication industry:

  • Construction of chemical plants, power stations, mining and processing equipment, gas and sewerage plants, desalination and industrial plants.
  • Construction in the building industry and structural steel.
  • Construction and maintenance of containers and tanks, tank trucks and rail tanks, as well as wagons and coaches.
  • Stone building facades and monuments.
  • Stainless Steel.

Unique and Cost-Saving Advantages

Superior cleaning rate – up to twice the performance of conventional abrasives, with more grains per volume (typical 28 million grains per kg) of active abrasive particles impacting the surface at the rate of 20-25m2 per hour.

Low consumption rate of 7-10kg/m2 is easily achieved. GMA NewSteel™ garnet is recyclable up to 6-8 times (depending on the application) due to its superior toughness and low friability (7.5-8.0 Mohs). It is possible to reduce garnet consumption by 70% via recycling.

SA3 white metal is effortlessly achieved. The shape and size of the grains ensure an even surface profile of 45-55 microns at 100psi at the blast nozzle.

Waterjet Cutting Abrasive

GMA Garnet™ abrasive is extensively used in all renowned waterjet cutting machines around the world.

The highest purity garnet and highly accurate sizing of grains are produced using the world’s best processing methods. This ensures that there are no dust or ineffective fine grains that can restrict garnet free flow – oversized grains may create a blockage in the focusing tube.

A steady flow of garnet abrasives to the focusing tube that is free from blockages allows uninterrupted production without downtime resulting in optimum efficiency and lowest production costs.

In addition, millions of years of weathering the hard and tough sub-angular garnet grains provide the perfect balance between cutting speed and edge quality. High quality alluvial garnet does not contain any fracture lines that weaken the grain inherent with crushed garnet.

Equipment wear and tear in particular, the cutting head and focusing tube are also reduced. This translates to direct cost-savings and longer service life.
